Delaware Bay Initiative update
In 2002, Ducks Unlimited, Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife and New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife (NJDFW) entered into an agreement on the “Delaware Bay Initiative,” committing to restore at least 15,000 acres of wetlands and associated habitats along the Delaware Bay by 2012. This agreement was extremely aggressive and it does not identify a funding source through which this 15,000-acre goal could be achieved. Thanks to the hard work of DU biologists over the past four years, DU projects alone have contributed more than 1,500 acres to this goal, with several thousand additional acres restored and protected by NJDFW and Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC).
