Meadowlands Study update
DU’s graduate student Matt DiBona, of the University of Delaware, has wrapped up two winters’ worth of field-sampling wintering habitats in the Meadowlands, and has spent the last several months sorting seeds, insects and other invertebrates out of his samples. By fall 2007, Matt will be able to tell us what types of food are most available to waterfowl in the Meadowlands, and in what types of wetlands the birds are most likely to find these food items. This data could help direct future DU restoration efforts not only in northeastern New Jersey, but also in urbanized wetland systems throughout the region.
